We’re very excited. Actually ahead of schedule, the conversation has turned to how the UK can remain/revoke/rejoin. The crux being, how can we satisfy the EU27 that we have moved beyond Brexit and aren’t just going to have a refelection every five years?
One of the methods mooted is forbidding the UK legally from doing that, which sounds a right laugh. But the better, more correct way we can do this is to understand the core issues of why people voted for Brexit and to find a strategy that works for everyone except the most die-hard Brexit fans.
This core issue is sovereignty: the ability we have – as individuals – to have our political choices reflected in policy. The solution is regional devolution across England and a UK federation of around 12 partners.
This isn’t just an interesting fantasy – it is actually the route to the future.
